WHAT YOU CAN DO…
• Know the types of behavior changes that may indicate a
student is having alcohol-related problems.
• Know your campus resources.You are on the front line and
have an on-going relationship with our students.You are in
a position to notice changes in student behavior that may
be alcohol related.
• Call the counseling center with a student; follow up.
• Be available to talk, read this brochure, ask questions of the
AOD committee, be confident enough to make a referral.
• Read the hints for how to approach a student who is experiencing
problems with alcohol on the AOD web pages that is
within the Counseling Center website.
• Allow students to make announcements in class about oncampus
activities.
• Encourage class discussion. Be aware of teachable moments,
when someone on campus is affected by an alcohol-related
incident, spring break, or alcohol awareness week.
• Offer opportunities in assignments for students to
incorporate an alcohol-related topic.
• Give credit to students who attend an appropriate
class-related campus prevention event.
• Hold classes on Halloween, St Patrick’s Day, and Fridays.• Be aware of assumptions about student alcohol use.
• Visit the Special Topics/Alcohol and Drugs page on the
Counceling Center website for further information.
• Reinforce social norms.
• Use Don’t Cancel That Class.
• Support existing programming; be aware of alternative activities on campus (Don’t know what’s going on? Sign up

• Become a member of the AOD Committee.
